Dearest Mabel, Ralph and Kids
How have you all been? Today is April Fools. But to us it is just another day, us we aren’t much in the mood for playing tricks and jokes. But I thought I might drop you a line to let you know that I am still alive and doing well, though I do miss home awful bad. I can’t tell you much about what I am doing, but I can tell you that I am a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator. I am on a great crew and we all get along swell. We have all been together since training in Walla Walla last fall. Boy, I sure do miss Walla Walla . It sure was nice living with Jan and Agnes for a few weeks. But I will be home soon. I only have three more weeks to go, and then I will be sent back to the states for more training if need be. But I hear this war won’t go on much longer. I hear Germany is about to surrender. I hope so. I haven’t gotten mail for about a week, but tomorrow is mail day and I’m expecting a few letters. I must close for now, as news is short. Well take care you guys, lots and lots of love- Johnny
Wyatt, I have the distinct feeling that your multi-genre project is going to make me cry. Well done.
